The Material

TerraGlas is a composite material consisting of terra cotta, cement, fine aggregates, glass fibers and additives.
Terra glas terra cotta composite can used in historic restorations of terra cotta as wall panels, spandrels, columns, capitals, architectural ornament, cornices, brackets, quoins, balustrade, railings, parapets, pilasters, copings, chimney pots and trim.

Advantages of Terra Glas

  • Faster Production: Speedier restoration of the historic structure and faster turn around on last minute additions.
  • Faster Construction: TerraGlas terra cotta is not only lighter, connection devices can be factory attached. In some cases prepanalization can allow multiple units to be erected at one time.
  • Lighter Weight: Lighter weight TerraGlas terra cotta can reduce the load on the historic structure.
  • More accurate reproductions of historic terra cotta. With traditional non reinforced terra cotta, molds cannot be pulled directly from the historic structure. Because of shrinkage, new oversized pieces must be created. This allows for artistic interpretation and variations from the original historic architectural element. With TerraGlas terra cotta, molds can be pulled directly from the existing terra cotta ornaments and reproduced exactly.
  • TerraGlas has the true look and feel of traditional terra cotta because it is terra cotta based.
  • Simplified and more secure connections. TerraGlas terra cotta connection details allow for infill of existing terra cotta or entirely new construction, faster, easier and safer than non reinforced terra cotta.
  • Environmentally friendlier. TerraGlas is made without the use of heavy metals and consumes less energy during production, transport and installation than traditional non reinforced terra cotta does.
  • Selection of existing products. For some restorations, the vast TerraGlas inventory of historic models and molds from terra cotta producers of the early 1900’s allows for exact reproduction from the original models without removal of the historic terra cotta first.
  • Service. TerraGlas can take molds from existing buildings, and will assist with color and texture matching and provides, budget, engineering and artistic consultation upon request.
